It's 2007 and again we sustained a great tradition. For the third time in a row we visited the jazz festival
East of Eastern in Nijmegen (NL). This small jazz festival is situated in the eastern part of the city, where the sun always shines, the pub density is surprisingly high, and gemütlichkeit is more than a smoked sausage. Last year we saw an amazing concert of
Michiel Braam’s Wurli Trio (extra credits for these guys, please!). This year was also great. Two performances I'd like to mention here. First I'd like to mention the
Orka Quartet. We saw a powerful trio (!) performing nice home-made jazz pieces. This band played itself more than properly and they deserved more attention from the audience. Another young band with a vigorous sound was the
Bodurov-Düppe-Heineking trio. As was the case with the Orka Quartet, there was one band member missing. As a result we saw a duo instead of the trio. But... this duo played a fabulous concert. I especially liked the traditional Bulgarian touch in the compositions. Great! After 'Frietje van Pietje' we went back home. And satisfied!
