Moj Dilbere by Don Sakitar

Yesterday I listened to an interesting demo CD of the band Don Sakitar. Don Sakitar is a professional duo that plays a variety of existing and 'home-made' songs. The musicians alternate different musical styles, like jazz, r&b, klezmer, and tango. Although the repertoire is diverse, the sound of the band is unique. It is hip. The song on the CD that stroke me most was an old traditional Balkan song, called 'Moj Dilbere' (which means 'My dearest'). The musicians play this delicate song with feeling. Pirates!

Saterday the seventh of october 2006 Gerben, Pablo and I accompanied a theatersports game between ‘Totdat de Dom Valt’ (Utrecht, Netherlands) and ‘TarTrek’ (Haarlem, Netherlands) on our musical instruments: trumpet, drums and keys. It was our job to play a potpourri of solemn, easy listening, loud and attractive eclectic music during the improvised scenes. The theme of the game was Pirates. We were asked to adapt our songs and wallpaper music to this theme and therefore we played tunes like ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’ and ‘Drunken Sailor’, and made sea shore, gull and roaring sounds. Nice to do! In the musical scenes the audience ‘forced’ us to play hard rock, reggea and soul music. The theatersports players of ‘TarTrek’ took these suggestions up very well. The players of ‘Totdat de Dom Valt’ asked us to play delicant songs. We provided simple chord progressions and rhythms and they sang delicious part-songs on top of it. The game was great and we enjoyed playing. I can't wait accompanying the 'sportsmen' during the next game of theatresports! Click here for an impression of the game.

Nimble-fingered Belinda

Pacdancai drew my attention to an exotic music video clip. Watch P-TV Channel 3 (in the margin of this blog) and see how this female keyboardist plays a keytar (a musical keyboard that can be held like a guitar). The style of the musician is light-fingered, the sound eclectic. Also the technique of playing the keytar is remarkable: the keytar is chocked up on a stand and the player moves to and fro the instrument. My suggestion: watch this video!
