Nostalgia: Casiopea!

In 1979 the Japanese fusion band Casiopea released their first album called Casiopea. During a holiday at Ameland, the Netherlands (I just finished high school) a friend of mine gave me a tape recording of that album. As from that moment, Casiopea was IT! We listened to the music over and over again. The song Black Joke was our favourite, but also other songs on this album were 'nice & corny' (i.e., advanced 'LottoBallen-Muziek') and were in our opinion beyond 'cult'. On You Tube I found a video clip of a live performance of Casiopea (1979; the early days of Casiopea: their creative period). The song is called Time Limit and is also from Casiopea's first record album. Unfortunately the Brecker Brothers and David Sanborn (horns) are replaced by synthesizers. Despite of this, the clip and (live) music is amazing!!! NOSTALGIA ;-)

Elfstedentocht

Last saterday PaQ, daQ-trumpet and I accompanied the theatresports game between Ulteam (Groningen, the Netherlands) and Totdat de Dom Valt (Utrecht, the Netherlands). A crazy game between two outstanding improv teams. The 'Totdat de Dom Valt' Group was extremely fortified: one of its former members - also known as Not-A-Lama-But-Pretty-Close - participated in the game. The team members of both teams performed well, sang great songs, and put some nice sketches on the scene. The theme of this evening's game was Elfstedentocht. Interesting for the musicians: time to play some Veleta's and Schaatsenrijderswalsen and sing songs about hot chocolate milk and Berenburg. Next game: March 3, 2007: Totdat de Dom Valt - Pro Deo.

Expressionism

Friday the sixth of January we went to the Van Gogh Museum to see the exhibition 'Vincent van Gogh and Expressionism'. Some years ago in Berlin, I saw beautifull paintings in the Bruecke Museum. And since, I've been interested in work of the Bruecke movement. Therefore for me it was very inspiring to see the exhibition at the Van Gogh Museum, where work of the expressionist Bruecke movement was compared to work of Vincent van Gogh. Especially work of Kirchner and Pechstein was prominent. And of course, the paintings of Van Gogh who inspired painters of the Bruecke and also other experessionist movements like Der Blaue Reiter, were magnificent. Although not big, the exhibition was worthwhile seeing and I recommend it to everyone who likes the work of expressionist painters and Van Gogh.
